Unit 3 Essay Huixian Huang 20 .jpg

I spent a lot of time to walk in gardens or parks, from those near to my living place to those several miles away or outside London. Like this is the most common thing I do during this year in the UK.

And I always had a question when I was wandering, "Why I don't feel tired when I spent 2 hours walking in a park but feel exhausted when I visit a gallery, museum or market?" I mean I really enjoy the time in galleries and museums but I still feel tired.

Is that magic? Time has stopped in nature? So my energy hasn't been consumed?

I think perhaps there is a kind of contrast between the time I spent in parks and galleries. It is like a trend, one is going up the other one is going down. The former one - time in parks is active and makes me feel positive. The latter one is a bit passive and I feel it a bit negative.

Some developed old films of landscapes

I have collected these films from my friends and vintage markets. Some of them are viewed from the sight of my friends some of them are from a person I unknown. I think that is very interesting, even though I don't know where the photos are taken, but they have become a frame of a record of a specific time. They also are a kind of embodiment of a real human person's experience and perception on that certain occasion.

Because it has a number of one roll of films and more challenge to edit films than a digital photo, the person using a film camera, based on my experience of using a film camera, tends to be more cautious and careful to shoot a photo. So I think the moments of the photos should have their private values or meanings to the photographers themselves. This is very phenomenal.

I found that I am always interested in something useless but beautiful in life, like poems, daydreaming and art. So I am used to collect them and then recollect them, those things constitute the majority of my life. it seems to my life is full of things that are meaningless but I still found them very beautiful. Like this is a realm of illusion or fantasy. Also, I can see a sense of slowness, lightness and brightness into these pieces of objects or substance, perhaps it is for the reason that they are existing far away from life, from the heavy or real side of life. So I can take my time, slow down my pace and just admire them.

I was in a park with Mix. We went follow a path into a small and quiet wood. There is a luminous object. I remembered I walk around it, one round, two rounds, three rounds, more rounds. Like I was being trapped in a loop or a labyrinth and kinda lost in it.

So the feelings of the objects and landscapes have become very important in relation to my participation in life and time. Everything is changing so fast, we would project our feelings onto the objects and landscapes not only because we have some experience that can be associated with us. Objects and landscapes are normally outlived human. They are relatively still and just stand at a place, as a form of the infinity of time. We can sense time through them, cause we see a kind of sense of temporality in our body through them.

The perception of landscapes turns to our impression of a certain occasion. The moment we recall them is not the scene itself, it is more likely the things behind the act of perceiving and reflecting on those impressions and memory. they are what we sense, perceive, create and make. They are part of our life.

Sometimes I think I am living a discursive life. Art can be discursive, poetry can be discursive, and I often chat with my friends with ramblings (this is getting serious especially under today's ongoing Covid-19 crisis in London).

Maybe I always believe that “it will be fine” and with this hope of life, I see the light behind shadow and the leaving light of day as a kind of "tunnel light". Light is leaving but it will be back as we are going through a tunnel.

More "tunnel lights"
